AB - The analysis of social media is gaining increased relevance due to the underlying huge amount of information. Among these, Twitter is becoming an indispensable source of information for researchers aiming to understand topics and events of all kinds (economic, political, cultural, social) and the attitudes and behaviors of individuals. However, to take full advantage of this bounty there is a need to properly address important methodological caveats such as the representativity of Twitter and challenges when collecting tweets. In this work, special attention will be given to sampling plan’s design and implementation for social science studies conducted in the context of the Twitterverse. The benefits and constraints of Twitter as a platform for social science research will also be discussed.
