“It’s not a taboo: unmasking underlying racism against immigrants and refugees in Portugal”.
Diversidad y desarrollo social
This paper deals with the phenomenon of migration and refuge in Portugal from a sociocultural perspective, based on a study carried out within the framework of a European project. The qualitative methodology adopted combined, in an articulated way, the fieldwork with the analysis of secondary sources. This made possible a critical approach towards the contradictions between the inclusive and integrative official-institutional discourse dominant in Portugal, which denies racism and discrimination, and the views of other social actors, often invisibilized, about their own reality and their exclusion experiences.
