Abstract
The talk will focus on a PhD research concerning the development of a transformation grammar for housing refurbishment. Mass customization is presented as a mean to take up the task of refurbishment the housing stock in European in an individualized way. Both shape grammar and space syntax were used as part of the refurbishment methodology as tools to identify and encode the principles and rules behind the adaptation of existing apartments to new requirements. In addition to defining a general methodology applicable to all the building types, the study focuses on a specific type, called “rabo-de-bacalhau” (“cod-tail”), built in Lisbon between 1945 and 1965 for which a specific methodology has been generated. Current lines of research following the development of the RdB-tg will be addressed. * Thesis Available at https://repositorio.iscte-iul.pt/handle/10071/7055 * Other work available at Available at http://iscte.academia.edu/SaraEloy
