André Filipe Barros Coelho is an architect, lecturer and researcher in the fields of architecture, conservation and rehabilitation of the built heritage. Trained in Architecture at ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon, he has developed a professional and academic path that brings together architectural practice, teaching, applied research and technical support in design and construction processes.
His work focuses on the relationship between architecture, rehabilitation, sustainable conservation, digital technologies and information management throughout the building life cycle. Within the scope of the PhD in Architecture of Contemporary Metropolitan Territories, he is developing research on the integration of digital systems into architectural conservation and rehabilitation processes, with particular attention to industrial heritage, digital documentation, diagnosis of the built environment and heritage management.
Since 2016, he has developed professional work in architectural design, urban rehabilitation, refurbishment, licensing procedures, technical coordination and construction supervision, covering residential buildings, facilities, commercial spaces, clinics and interventions in built heritage. This practical experience has contributed to a methodological approach based on the articulation between critical analysis of the existing context, technical rigour, programmatic response and the sustainability of interventions.
As an Invited Assistant Lecturer at Iscte, he collaborates in curricular units related to construction, conservation and sustainable rehabilitation, seeking to connect technical knowledge, design practice and critical reflection on the contemporary challenges of the built environment. His work privileges an integrated, multidisciplinary and applied approach, oriented towards the enhancement of architectural heritage, the improvement of design processes and the strategic use of digital tools in architecture.
