Instituto de Telecomunicações - IUL
IT-IUL is the Iscte-IUL branch of the national Instituto de Telecomunicações (IT) research unit which includes 6 universities and 2 telecommunication companies. The mission of IT includes creating and disseminating scientific knowledge, supporting advanced training, promoting technology transfer and supporting public policy. IT has sites or branches in six cities in Portugal. The research conducted at IT is categorized into five thematic lines: Wireless Technologies, Optics & Photonics, Information & Data Sciences, Networks and Services, Basic Sciences & Enabling Technologies. Overall, IT hosts 616 members (239 permanent researchers holding a PhD and 377 other collaborators). IT is recognized as a Technology and Innovation Center and Associated Laboratory by the National Science and Technology System.
The IT-IUL has 32 members (20 permanent PhD researchers and 12 PhD collaborators) and 30 doctoral students, distributed across 8 research groups: Antennas and Propagation, Information Technology, Instrumentation and Measurements, Multimedia Signal Processing, Network Architectures and Protocols, Optical Communication Systems and Networking, Pattern and Image Analysis, and Radio Systems. By the end of 2023, the research output from IT-IUL encompasses 12 books and 78 book chapters, along with 552 papers published in journals, 1294 papers presented in conference proceedings, and a total of 21 patents (19 granted and 2 pending). Researchers of IT-IUL have actively participated in 27 international projects and 98 national projects.
