Catarina T. Pires is a Health Psychologist and a Post-Doctoral Researcher at CIS-IUL (ISCTE-IUL, Lisbon) highly interested in the study of Pain. She has been developing work on the role of psychological factors (e.g., depression, anxiety, cognitive bias, hope, and acceptance) in the prevention/onset/maintenance of chronic pain, and its psychological treatment (hypnosis and biofeedback). Her focus and contributions on the pain field started in 2003 during the Master’s thesis on Health Psychology (University of Bedfordshire, Luton, UK) and since then it has been her main area of clinical and empirical interest (Master in Pain Psychology, 2008 and PhD in Psychology, 2014). She has been also collaborating (as a Health Psychologist and Care Manager) in funded projects on self-management in chronic pain and depression in the context of Primary Care.
