Lorena Maneiro Boo is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow. Her research focuses on understanding how early adversity and social vulnerability shape child and adolescent development. Although her initial work centered on the juvenile justice system, her interests gradually shifted toward the child protection system. During her postdoctoral training at Leiden University and the University of Santiago de Compostela, she led a longitudinal study involving 200 children and adolescents living in residential care, examining their risk profiles, developmental precursors, and outcomes. In this context, she developed MEDRA, a multi-method participatory assessment tool designed to support professionals in the evaluation of multiple developmental domains in children and young people in care. She is currently conducting the research project CAREFAL, which focuses on understanding developmental trajectories and caregiver–youth dynamics among adolescents in alternative care, with the aim of generating evidence to improve care practices and inform child protection policies.
