Marcelo Ricardo Fernand
es Roschel is a research assistant at DINÂMIA’CET-Iscte – Centre for Socioeconomic and Territorial Change Studies and a doctoral candidate in Urban Studies in the joint program between ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon (ISCTE-IUL) and the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences at Nova University of Lisbon (FCSH-UNL). His current research focuses on the urban regeneration of Marvila, with an emphasis on the appropriation of former industrial spaces by the cultural and creative sectors as a tool for land valorization. His work analyzes territorial dynamics and competing interests, considering the role of public and private actors, as well as the structural impacts on the city. His academic background includes a master's degree in Public Policy Management from the University of São Paulo (USP), where he investigated urban requalification policies for the Luz neighborhood, located in the central region of São Paulo. The study examined state interventions implemented in the area and their effects on the territory, with particular attention to urban renewal dynamics and conflicts between different interests. He holds a postgraduate degree in City Management and Urban Planning from Cândido Mendes University (UCAM) and a bachelor's degree in Public Policy Management from the School of Arts, Sciences, and Humanities at the University of São Paulo (EACH-USP), where he developed a career focused on the management and analysis of public policies applied to urban spaces.
