Saúl used to be a Consultant at the Portuguese Data Protection Authority (CNPD), which he represented on the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) Technology expert subgroup, among other taskforces.

He was part of the European Commission's experts evaluating member states on the application of the Schengen acquis, in the field of data protection.

His main research interests focus on Security, Privacy and Personal Data Protection, Consumer Protection and Digital Transition.
