Sónia Alves is an interdisciplinary scholar working at the intersection of housing, urban governance and institutional analysis. Her work brings together perspectives from human geography, urban planning and sociology to examine housing systems, spatial inequalities, and the design and implementation of public policy. Her research focuses on the institutional and territorial processes that shape contemporary urban and housing challenges.

Over the past decade, she has worked across several European countries, including Portugal, Denmark and the United Kingdom, in both academic and policy-oriented research contexts. Her publications in international journals reflect a strong commitment to theory-building, empirical rigour and policy-relevant scholarship. She is currently an Integrated Researcher at DINÂMIA’CET–Iscte and a Visiting Researcher at Aalborg University, where she develops research on housing systems, territorial inequalities, institutional capacity and the conditions under which incremental policy change may generate broader transformations.
