Abstract/Resumo
This paper aims to show the cognitive and educational limitations of the official institutional discourse to combat match-fixing. Recently, and after reaching the political and sports’ institutional agendas, papers and reports have been published and prevention campaigns have been launched on match-fixing. These have allowed us to point out an official narrative on the subject. The discursive analysis of the “nodal points”, which are the basis for the preventive discourse, displays a lack of holistic awareness of the phenomenon. Also, many discursive variables that should be part of the narrative are avoided. Likewise, the narrative is presented with a universal character, yet the Iberian cases present evidences that contradict it. Based on interviews to key informants and survey research, this paper lists “new opportunity structures” and “risk areas”, in the last part. These are not addressed nor incorporated in the prevention campaigns. Thus, these might facilitate the phenomenon existence and the problem’s expansion
