Abstract/Resumo
In the early twentieth century a 'colony' of Portuguese emigrants in New England
was, from the standpoint of Portugal, the second largest 'colony' emigrant, following
which chose Brazil as a destination. We propose to make a cross-analysis of two
books which characterized the Portuguese community in the Boston area in the 20s.
The analysis of the two views, one American and one Portuguese, let see how the
representations of this 'immigrant colony' are variable and dependent on the
perception scheme of each of the observers
