Abstract
The promotion of Health Literacy is generating significant changes in the way that people and organisations perceive and manage health issues. The media emerges as one of the strategic elements for the development of this type of literacy. The objective of this article is to understand the level of visibility of the Information that Fosters Health Literacy (IFHL) in the different media in Portugal. 947 news items were analysed and the preliminary results indicate that the information related to the promotion of health literacy reveals a low level of visibility in the Portuguese media and shows that topics related to public health and the combat of disease receive greater coverage than topics associated to prevention in health or individual management aimed at healthy living.
