Iscte the only university to fill every place in the second round
Iscte is the only university in Portugal to have filled every one of its places in this year's national higher education admissions, according to figures published by the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation.
The institution had already filled 98.8% of its 1,629 places for 2026/27 in the first round. The 32 places left for the second round, spread across its five schools in Lisbon and Sintra, have now been taken, so every programme is full.
Strong entry grades for new degrees
This year, Iscte increased its number of places by 4.7%, more than any other Portuguese university in percentage terms. The 77 additional places come from three new undergraduate degrees, in Law, International Studies and Applied Mathematics for Economics and Finance, all of which admitted students with averages above 17 out of 20.
A first-choice university
Iscte also leads the national Strength Index (Índice de Força), with a score of 191.7. The index compares the number of students who list a programme as their first choice with the number of places available, and most of the students admitted to Iscte this year put it at the top of their list.
