Liberal Democracy, the Rule of Law and the State: Portugal in comparative perspective, 1970s-2020s
Description

This project aims at a full understanding of the conditions favoring liberal democracy, with a special focus on Portugal. The principle of liberal democracy values individual and minority rights against the tyranny of the state and of the majority. This is achieved by constitutionally protected civil liberties, rule of law, an impartial state, independent judiciary, and judicial and parliamentary control of executive power.
