Specification of audiovisual representation standards (MPEG-4, MPEG-7 and MPEG-21).

1) Research of new compact Ka-band satellite antenna solutions capable of operating simultaneously in both uplink and downlink bands. The antennas will be based on the aperture overlap concept. In one approach an adequate frequency-selective multi-layer slab is placed above an array of feeds in order to produce multiple overlapping apertures, each one ensuring adequate reflector illumination. In another approach of the project, integrated shaped lens antennas with multiple feeds attached to its base will be explored with the same objectives. 2) Design of compact low-cost Ka-band antennas for terrestrial terminals, either fixed or installed on moving platforms like cars, trains or ships. These antennas must have a single steerable beam constantly pointing towards the satellite as the terminal moves. This will evolve from a previous concept proposed by the project team, where a steerable shaped dielectric lens pivots in front of a stationary feed requiring no rotary joints which are expensive and prone to faults. New lens configurations will be researched, including flat lens made of inhomogeneous metamaterial.

Este projecto pretende estudar as associações voluntárias que desenvolvem a sua actividade em contextos determinados (urbanos ou rurais) com o intuito de contribuírem para a elevação da qualidade de vida, nomeadamente através da dinamização e revitalização (social, cultural e económica) das localidades onde se inserem. O estudo caracterizará as diferentes escalas dos processos de desenvolvimento local compreendidas entre a formulação genérica das políticas públicas (programas europeus e/ou nacionais), as estratégias de implementação no terreno e, por último, as suas consequências ao nível da formação local de redes de capital social.

The main goal of the project is to address and tackle some of the most challenging open problems in the area of quantum security. Significant original results are expected in several fronts, such as: design and analysis of quantum protocols, model checking of quantum systems, quantum cryptoanalysis of classical protocols, quantum solutions to classical impossibilities. Several applications will be investigated with the purpose of understating how they can be speed up using quantum information. The focus will be on cryptographic tasks, such as zero knowledge proof systems, e-voting, authentication and contract signing. A model-checking tool for quantum systems will be produced within the project, as well as a simulator for testing quantum attacks on symmetric cryptosyst
