Open Components for Controled Access to Multimedia Material - IST-1999-11443 The OCCAMM project addresses the problem of open architectures and interfaces for on-line access to digital content with IPR protection and management, seen as an evolutionary process from today's piecemeal initiatives to full-fledged multimedia. The activity concentrates on developing enabling tools for the controlled delivery and consumption of multimedia information over networks, as well as setting up prototype applications and services based on the selected technologies to prove their effectiveness. To that end, a test platform will be constructed which will incorporate state-of-the-art content protection tools into a secure infrastructure compliant to the specification of international standard bodies, including OPIMA, SDMI and MPEG. Trials will be conducted with this facility, involving real end-users both in the home and in schools, to validate innovative business models for the benefit of market operators. Objectives:The main objectives of the OCCAMM project are:1) to specify and develop a series of enabling tools and components, compatible with emerging open standards (OPIMA, SDMI, MPEG), which will handle the controlled access, delivery, consumption and rights management of multimedia information;2) to establish a number of commercially-driven applications utilising the aforementioned tools, which will deliver the needs of all participants in the above business;3) to define and monitor performance levels in trial environments for such applications, and to point out additional actions needed for subsequent full and successful commercial exploitation. The developed trial facility aims also at representing a European test-bed where new pieces of technology specified by the main standardisation fora in the field of content protection can be assessed and a co-ordinated European input to standard bodies can be provided.Work description:The main part of the work will be the implementatio...

P5 IST-2000-25436 UNITE, “Ubiquitous and Integrated Teamwork Environment” (2000-2002) UNITE has produced research and development on co-operative workplaces and their creation from a unified co-operation platform. This platform is the key system component which provides the facilities for devices, components, and networks to fully interact, despite the possible original inherent heterogeneity, and which takes care that a uniform and ubiquitous view is presented to all team members regardless of their physical location. UNITE has addressed systems requirements and architecture for seamless integration of virtual and physical workplaces. UNITE has built on technology convergence among communication and collaboration media as well as different network technologies. It has exploited the ability of appliances to notify their existence and characteristics to the workplace environment.   More information at the European Commission website here.   Partners ISCTE COVENTRY UNIVERSITY FRAUNHOFER GESELLSCHAFT ZUR FOERDERUNG DER ANGEWANDTEN FORSCHUNG E.V. FashionMe aims to enable fashion shopping with individualized avatars in virtual 3D environments. Customers can take advantage of the possibility to generate a lifelike avatar of themselves and use it to test designs and models of clothing in virtual fitting rooms via the Internet. Furthermore there is not only the possibility to try on standard confections but to use the lifelike avatars to order measure-to-measure products from retailers world-wide over tele-service connections like the Internet. All consortium partners are professionals in their working area: technology providers, researchers, software and application developers, and fashion retailers. Together in the consortium a FashionMe virtual fitting room prototype will be developed and presented to the public as a result of the project work. Objectives: The FashionMe consortium will develop and produce a concept and toolset of a virtual fitting room which will be scalable for the customers’ needs and wishes, and also the technical equipment. FashionMe will offer the possibility of Fashion Shopping with individualised 3-D Avatars interacting and moving in virtual 3-D environments in the Internet, as well as a CD-Rom based 2-D selection toolset, and scalable applications between this high-end and low-end solutions. The main objective is to find possibilities to offer personalised fashion shopping environments to select different styles and models, and to enable the customer to order made-to-made clothing without travelling and several try on sessions. The personal individual avatar gives enough information for the producer to make clothes, that fit. More information at the European Commission website here.
