Abstract
This essay aims to analyze February 4, 1961, as one of the four (or five) fundamental pillars of the Armed Struggle for National Liberation – the other three being January 4 (Kassanje), March 15, 1961 (UPA/FNLA), and March 13, 1966 (UNITA); and one could include, as a final pillar, January 15, 1975, the date of the signing of the Alvor Agreement – examining the convergence of male and female protagonists in the resistance, the preservation of collective memory, and the complex ethical, social, and political challenges that Angola faces today as it approaches the historic milestone of fifty years of independence.
