AB - In this chapter, I introduce newcomers to protest event analysis with the objective of
pointing out the main elements of this method, the possibilities it offers and the avenues
to follow in empirical research. For that the chapter describes first how I came to use the
method, defines PEA and the type of questions it answers to then discuss data collection,
coding and analysis. Afterwards, I point out some of the limitations and solutions of the
method and in the last section I outline the most recent innovations.
