PY - 2025 CY - Barcelona UR - https://redestudiosafricanos.org/el-congreso/ AB - Decolonization is an academic buzzword that keeps on giving. Ibrahima Thiaw’s paper is an ambitious, dense, and occasionally exhausting intellectual rollercoaster, blending history, memory, and identity into a post-colonial gumbo. There’s a lot to admire, plenty to critique, and a few moments where you wonder if the text itself is caught in an endless loop of self-referential academia. But reading it as a Portuguese scholar? That’s where things get fun. Because while Portugal was undeniably a colonial power, we’ve also been on the receiving end of imperial manipulation - whether by Spain, Britain, or, more recently, the EU’s bureaucratic overlords.
