AB  - The transition from IPv4 to IPv6 marks a pivotal moment in the evolution of internet architecture, driven by the need for expanded address space and enhanced functionality. This paper examines the security and privacy implications of IPv6, highlighting its built-in security features such as IPSec, as well as the new vulnerabilities that arise with its implementation. Key challenges include the complexities of dual-stack environments, the risks associated with transition mechanisms, and the privacy concerns linked to address generation methods. We explore best practices for securing IPv6 networks, including firewall configurations, first hop security measures, and advanced monitoring solutions. It presents an analisys on risks in university campus networks due to the complexity of their technological infrastructures and the diversity of user profiles. Additionally, we discuss future research directions aimed at addressing ongoing security challenges, such as the development of tailored security protocols, effective address management strategies, and frameworks for securing Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Ultimately, this paper emphasizes the importance of proactive measures and continuous education to safeguard networks and protect user privacy in the evolving landscape of IPv6. By adopting comprehensive strategies that encompass both technical solutions and awareness initiatives, organizations can enhance their security posture while harnessing the full potential of IPv6.
