TY - CHAP TI - Integrating Chat GPT and MATLAB in the Classroom and Their Impact on the Business T2 - Proceedings of 20th Iberian Conference on Information Systems and Technologies (CISTI 2025) AU - Soraya González-Mendes AU - Costa, C. Nonetheless, its use could come not only with benefits but also with downsides, especially for its utilization in the education and business sectors. Other digital tools (e.g., MATLAB software) could be more helpful in integrating into the education context, making the comprehension and motivation of studying mathematics more attractive and enhancing students’ abilities and competencies, making them more valuable for the companies. In this light, our study examines the students’ answers to questions on utilizing these digital tools in the classroom, considering whether using both or one of them could enhance the motivation and comprehension of mathematics students. The survey was focused on students located in a Spanish school. The findings conclude that students prefer to use MATLAB rather than Chat GPT in the classroom, considering MATLAB as a valuable tool for enhancing knowledge and understanding of mathematics. Additionally, the competencies acquired for using MATLAB could be more beneficial for enterprises, as students are losing critical thinking skills when using Chat GPT. This study helps governments, school, institutions, teachers, students, and parents understand that Chat GPT is generating downsides for students that need to be taken into account. ER -
