AB  - The presentation aimed to share the context, process and outcomes of the artistic project 29.5, developed during a residency at Pavilion 29 of the Lisbon Psychiatric Hospital Centre Hospital Júlio de Matos.

The session introduced the initial motivations of the project, grounded in the notion of invisible territories and in the desire to create a symbolic bridge between the hospital and the city. The presentation followed the project’s development from the first contextual readings mostly through  photography and archive reserch, to the formulation of a proposal based on an anonymous exchange of letters initiated by hospital users and answered by external participants.

The different project devices were presented, including the digital platform, the ephemeral installation at Areeiro metro station and the dissemination strategies. Attention was given to the modes of participation of both hospital users and the general public, as well as to the diversity of responses received and the impact of the project, particularly the recurring feeling of being heard expressed by participants.

The presentation also addressed the integration of the project into the exhibition PLAY THE GROUND Invisible Territories, the small scale publications created from the correspondence and the intention to develop a final publication as a way of preserving and disseminating the project’s outcomes. This publication is currently in a funding search phase.

The session concluded with a critical reflection on the ethical considerations, limitations and open questions raised by the project, emphasizing the value of small gestures of communication in fostering proximity between the hospital and the city.
