AB  - The South Atlantic has consolidated itself as an essential strategic platform for maritime security and South-South cooperation between Latin America and Africa, highlighted by the role of the South Atlantic Peace and Cooperation Zone (ZOPACAS/ZPCAS). Moving away from traditional dependence on Northern powers, regional nations seek autonomy in managing collective challenges, with a particular focus on the stability of the Gulf of Guinea, a critical area for energy security and global trade.
In this scenario, Brazil assumes a central geopolitical leadership role, projecting its diplomacy and military capacity to build robust defense partnerships with key African nations, namely Angola and South Africa. Complementarily, Argentina and Uruguay align with this regional effort, strengthening security ties across the Atlantic basin. The synergy among these actors bolsters naval policing against transnational threats, such as piracy, and protects strategic local resources. Thus, transatlantic military cooperation transforms a purely geographical space into a shield of stability and political concertation between the two continents.
