TY - JOUR TI - Who should have a say in health policy? A collaborative approach to public participation T2 - Sociologia, Problemas e Práticas IS - 111 AU - Crisóstomo, S. AU - Santos, M. AU - Matos, A. R. PY - 2026 SN - 0873-6529 DO - 10.7458/SPP202611143191 UR - https://revistas.rcaap.pt/sociologiapp/about AB - Using a participatory action research approach, this study examines support for public participation in health policy decision-making in Portugal. Strong support was observed, with key predictors including empowerment orientation, participation-related stereotypes, advocacy beliefs, membership in patient organisations, and prior participatory experience. Findings underscore the need to promote participatory spaces, adopt collaborative and inclusive approaches, raise awareness of public participation and the role of representative organisations, and foster citizen engagement.
