AB - In the “arts world” (Becker, 1982) a way back to the self is performed with self-portraits mainly in photography, autobiographies or autobiographical works in literature and cinema. Consequently, a novel importance is given to the body as an object of the art and science world rather barely to the subject’s subjectivity. And in this line of action “Self-image” is treated as an object of its own; the “agency of the image” (Belting, 2005) appears consequently as a new paradigm shift of the actual sciences, arts and aesthetics performing a self-disproved from the I - Images as objects of personal identification, depersonalized, transformed itself in one thing, linked to the un-form, to the un-subjective subject which holds it – which become visible, as evidence, as reference and standpoints for analysis and interpretation. Between these regimes of depersonalization, there are several artists from whom to get our sociological eye. In Portugal and as object of this sociological meeting we have Helena Almeida and Jorge Molder, although there are others who could be in this context of investigation, for instance the American artist Cindy Sherman, the Brazilian Lygia Clark or the British Eugene Palmer, Sterlac or Orlan in different ways and working with different mediums, artists giving expression to body representation, cases which bring light on this problem about body, identity and representation on contemporary art.
