AB - The objective of this presentation is to analyse the individual, familiar, professional and life trajectories of a group of 30 young fathers (among 20 and 35 years old) there are understood as fathers, professionals, husbands/partners and men, what it means in performance of multiple social roles.
The theoretical framework includes sociological studies on working class families, gender, youth and education, and the empirically framework based on the analysis of the semi-directive interviews. The principal result of this study is a typology of fatherhood. This typology contains three types of fathers: the “ant” fathers, the “chicken” fathers and the “rooster” fathers. Generally, the first ones are professional oriented, working more hours after being a father and don’t have much time to spent with their children’s; by and large, the second ones are family oriented and have an effective involvement with their children’s; the last group, also family oriented, is more traditionalist and shows a gap between speech and practices, that is they don’t actually practice what they say.
