AB  - This paper defines the KAD* architecture, an integrated CAD and CSCW system, for better support the design process in industry, particularly on the development of new products in automotive sector. The KAD system intends to reduce the lead time by providing and integrating flexible and efficient capabilities for testing early concepts from the ergonomic, surface analysis and normative points of view in automotive product development. Based on domain ontology and on information repository we define tools for knowledge management and retrieval of technical knowledge via models in new CAD environment, helping the users to perform their job. These characteristics differentiate the KAD system from others, because it supports intelligent rules engine, for extrapolate and make inference with historical surfaces and solutions that allow the generation of technical surfaces, the use of ergonomics and homologation rules and also the automatic integration of automatic job routines in CAD.
