AB - Single sideband (SSB) multi-band orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (MB-OFDM) is shown as an
effective solution to achieve high granularity, spectral efficiency and flexibility in next generation metropolitan
(metro) networks. A technical solution employing virtual carrier-assisted direct-detection (DD) is proposed to
achieve such features. The main system parameters are identified, and the performance of a 42.8 Gb/s SSB DD
MB-OFDM (with four bands) metro network is optimized through numerical simulation.
