AB - Society today faces new challenges and needs. Due to drastic climate changes, economic crises, war, or people looking for better knowledge or adventure, around the world the migration has substantially increased, either temporarily or definitive. This has a big reflection on the urban space. It is quite common to
find in the same place coexistence between different cultures, as well as different age groups or social classes. How should the architect find a way to deal with these differences? How should the architect think and design urban space?
In this paper it will be explained how a team of architects respond to these questions. The action puts together multidisciplinary teams – architecture, design, digital fabrication, informatics, sociology and management – working with the experience of the final users to achieve solutions that contribute in a positive way to the daily life of an interior, exterior architecture or urban space.
Practical examples of these works will be given, focusing in three main groups:Workshops, Partnerships with
local communities and Alternative Curricula in schools.
The paper aims to demonstrate the direct relationship between social challenges, users’ participation and
digital fabrication.
