TY - CONF TI - Proceedings of the 7th International Conference on the Quality of Information and Communications Technology (QUATIC'2010) VL - 1 AU - Brito e Abreu, F. AU - João Pascoal Faria AU - Ricardo Jorge Machado PY - 2010 DO - 10.1109/QUATIC.2010.96 CY - Porto, Portugal UR - http://dx.doi.org/10.1109/QUATIC.2010.96 AB - Welcome to the 7th International Conference on the Quality of Information and Communications Technology! Quality is increasingly regarded as a major success factor in ICT. Devising high quality approaches to ICT development is simultaneously a grand challenge and an opportunity in a very competitive area. QUATIC has a long tradition of bringing together practitioners and researchers, with a balanced number of participants from both communities. This edition extends that tradition with a stronger internationalization, by opening a forum for knowledge and experience sharing among experts from almost 40 countries, including authors and program committee (PC) members. We have organized the scientific program in two parts. The first part consists of 11 Thematic Tracks, held in parallel on the conference’s first day, to promote focused discussions on how Quality crosscuts the following knowledge areas: Process Improvement and Assessment, Agile Methods, Standardization and Certification, Service Management, Web Engineering, Requirements Engineering, Model Driven Engineering, Verification and Validation, Reengineering and Refactoring, Evolution and Teaching. The second part is a 2-day Main Track, where the best contributions of each Thematic Track will be discussed within a wider audience. The Main Track program also includes 10 inspiring keynote addresses by world-wide leading experts in the topics covered by the thematic sessions. An Industrial Track and a Posters Track run also in parallel with the Main Track, but their materials are published in separate proceedings. The peer reviewing process is the heart and soul of a good scientific program. To improve the quality of this 7th edition, we organized it, for the first time, as a two-phase commit distributed quality control process. The scientific program offered to you in this QUATIC stands on the shoulders of an army of highly specialized peer reviewers. We metaphorically say an “army”, due to the large number of PC members (see the statistics table) and their strength. The strength comes from the reviews confidence factor’, which was rated 3 (high confidence), on average, in a scale of 0 to 4, both in the Main Track and in the Thematic Tracks. The first review phase was led in parallel by the 11 Thematic Track committees. The authors of the best papers in each of those tracks (a total of 26 out of 140 submitted papers) were selected to submit an extended version to the Main Track. The extended versions of these 26 papers were then evaluated by at least 3 Main Track PC members, to choose the best 16 papers to the Main Track. We thank all PC members, both in the Thematic and Main tracks, for the great work they performed! In the proceedings we have 16 long papers in the Main Track and 60 short papers on the Thematic Tracks. Long papers are presented twice, first in the Thematic Track from where they originated, to a more “specialized” audience and then to a wider audience, during the plenary scientific sessions of the Main Track. The commonly used measure of the projection of a conference in the scientific community is its acceptance ratio. We are happy to realize that our figure (see the statistics table again) rivals with those of top conferences, for instance in the Software Engineering field 1. To have a glimpse of the overall review process we provide you some statistics in the enclosed table. These numbers do not include the submissions to the Industrial Track that were independently evaluated by another committee. We want to express gratitude to the IEEE Computer Society publishing services for the swift process of setting up the proceedings for this conference. A thank also goes for the editors of the International Journal on Innovations in Systems and Software Engineering (Springer) and of the Software Quality Professional Journal (American Society for Quality), for having accepted to produce special issues with extended and improved versions of the best papers in QUATIC’2010. Last, but not the least, we also want to show appreciation for the work of those who created and maintain the EasyChair conference system. It has definitely eased our work. We truly expect you will enjoy our scientific program! Best regards Fernando Brito e Abreu Miguel Goulão ER -
