AB - Gentrification is probably one of concepts, created and developed within university, with a greater mediatisation. Frequently, it is mixed up with urban regeneration. Nevertheless, not all the processes of urban regeneration cause gentrification, and, besides that, it takes (nowadays) many forms. This paper will explore a chronology of the mediatisation of the concept of gentrification as an indicator of the public perceptions of the changes of Lisbon’s inner city and the relation between those perceptions and the observed urban dynamics in the city. The analysis of one of the most popular Portuguese daily newspaper shows that the concept appears quite late (21st century) and has grown exponentially since 2014. This reveals a great concordance between the perceptions and the dynamics of urban change.
