AB  - Conhecer  a  diversidade  atual  de  experiências  de  gravidez  parto  e  transição  para  a maternidade paternidade é uma tarefa que, nos últimos anos, tem vindo a ocupar cada vez mais investigadoras/es, ativistas e coletivos. Em 2017, em Portugal, um grupo de investigação propôs-se a contribuir para o reconhecimento e o desenvolvimento de um campo científico emergente, tendo para o efeito lançado o projeto nascer.pt - Laboratório de Estudos Sociais sobre o Nascimento. Neste texto, apresentamos o processo de criação e desenvolvimento desta  estrutura  de  investigação  que,  a  partir  da  intersecção  de  diferentes  áreas  de conhecimento - das ciências da saúde às ciências sociais, passando pelas artes -, se propõe a produzir e difundir conhecimento sobre as condições do nascimento em Portugal, o seu enquadramento social, político, cultural e institucional, bem como os seus resultados em saúde, bem-estar e satisfação. Para além de entender o nascimento na sua diversidade e multidimensionalidade e, sobre ele, produzir conhecimento a partir de diferentes olhares, o nascer.pt tem um propósito transformativo de intervenção sobre a realidade. Deste modo, o Laboratório promove iniciativas com forte componente prática e consolida-se como espaço de  formação  de  novas  gerações  de  investigadoras/es.  Cotidianamente,  investimos  na construção de uma equipa multidisciplinar e em colaborações com diferentes entidades e projetos, dentro e fora da academia, a nível nacional e internacional. Finalmente, acreditamos que  a  promoção  do  conhecimento  sobre  o  nascimento  permitirá  informar  as  políticas  e promover novos debates sobre a ética do nascimento, as escolhas pessoais e coletivas, e os comportamentos e as práticas que configuram este fenómeno da maior importância.

Knowing the current diversity of experiences of pregnancy, childbirth and transition to motherhood and fatherhood is something that, in recent years, researchers, activists and other social groups have been interested in knowing
the current. In 2017, in Portugal, a research group purposed to contribute to the recognition and development of the domain of Childbirth, as an emerging scientific field in Portugal, through the launch of the project nascer.pt -
Laboratory of Social Studies on Birth. This text aims to present the process of creation and
development of this research structure, which, through the intersection of different areas of
knowledge - health sciences, social sciences, arts, etc. –, came to produce and disseminate
knowledge about the conditions of birth in Portugal, its social, political, cultural, and institutional framework, as well as its outcomes in health, well-being, and satisfaction. In addition to understanding childbirth in its
diversity and multidimensionality and producing knowledge about this phenomenon from different perspectives, nascer.pt has a transformative purpose of intervention in the reality. In this way, the Laboratory promotes
initiatives with a strong practical bent and it is acknowledged as a training space for new generations of researchers. Daily, we invest in building a multidisciplinary team and in collaborations with different entities and
projects, inside and outside academia, nationally and internationally. Finally, we believe that promoting knowledge about childbirth will contribute to inform policies and to promote new debates on the ethics of childbirth, personal and collective choices, and the behaviours and practices that make up this important phenomenon.
