TY - CPAPER TI - Age-friendly cities and urban design: a stakeholder analysis T2 - 3.º Congresso Internacional da Age.Comm – Sustentabilidade e Envelhecimento AU - Montalvão, M. PY - 2023 AB - The concept of age-friendly cities has become a global initiative that contemplates the role urban environments have to play in relation to aging issues. Urban design plays a crucial role in promoting age-friendly cities designed to meet the needs and enhance the quality of life for older adults. A clear framework is needed to improve the health and well-being of older people in ways through transformative change to provide the conditions for healthier, more sustainable cities and communities. Finding and developing initiatives that promote sustainability and encourage older people's social integration and mobility is critical. One of the core elements of improving age-friendly cities and communities relies on stakeholders. Identifying and analyzing stakeholders is essential to understand the phenomena, and including the diversity of stakeholder perspectives can promote a holistic and informed understanding of the problem. The present study focuses on stakeholder analysis and aims to aggregate the knowledge and interests of various stakeholders on urban planning policies, active mobility, and the social integration of older people. By incorporating stakeholders' insights, we aim to analyze urban design characteristics’ and explore strategies to create age-friendly environments that support active aging, promote physical activity, and enhance older adults' overall well-being and quality of life. It presents as a basis for identifying stakeholders a specific framework regarding the mobility of older people. The stakeholder categories shown in the framework are the scientific community, policymakers and government, private companies, civil society organizations, the public, and forces of social and health services and professionals in the area. The study relies on a qualitative methodology, and it is expected that semi-structured interviews are carried out with twenty-eight stakeholders. A qualitative content analysis is conducted with a deductive-inductive approach to respond to the research objectives. The practical implications of the study are discussed. ER -
