Abstract
Blockchain is a distributed ledger of data that can record and track any transaction or asset in a safe and efficient way. It has many applications, from cryptocurrencies, to fintech and smart contracts, although it has still few in the area of Supply Chain Management (SCM). SCM is a concept that means integration, visibility, transparency and sustainable stakeholder relations. Blockchain technology can be a solution to accomplish supply chain principles and goals. The Covid-19 pandemic, which caused a disruption in supply chains, accelerated trends such as digitization and the choice to intensify ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) initiatives in supply chains in the following years. A literature review of the applications of blockchain in the Sustainable SCM (SSCM) of the forestry sector is presented. The main problem encountered in forestry supply chains is the illegal timber trading. Blockchain along with IoT, RFID, cloud computing and artificial intelligence can be a solution to this problem. These results are only a few and in early stages of implementation, although with the expectation of acceleration in the coming years. There is no review of literature to date of the applications of blockchain in forest wood products and SSCM.
