Abstract
This paper seeks to look at the social impact of the “Charity Soup” (managed by Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa) and the “Soup Kitchen of Lisbon” (private institution maneged by Sociedade Protectora das Cozinhas Económicas de Lisboa) among the Lisbon population and the importance of public and private policy for the maintenance and development of this two institutions in Lisbon between 1888 and 1918. In this apresentation many topics will be analized: number and quality of meals, dietary preferences of Lisbon’s people, identification of the helped people, hygienic and preventive care, infrastructures, financial support, administrative structure, etc.
