This lecture explores the intersections between architecture, food systems, and socio-economic resilience through the lens of Le Corbusier’s Immeuble-villas project, first presented at the 1922 Salon d’Automne in Paris. While initially conceived as a response to post-war crises in housing, domesticity, and cost of living, the project also offers an early critique of industrial paradigms and a vision for collective living grounded in shared services, waste minimisation, and alternative economies. This lecture situates Immeuble-villas as a precursor to housing cooperatives and an underexplored reference point in the discourse on resource-efficient urban design.
