Abstract/Resumo
The chapter examines the processes involved in incorporating cultural diversity in the local space through governance mechanisms specific to the entrepreneurial city in a postcolonial context. The chapter reflects on three interdependent points. Firstly, that the cultural diversity brought by immigrant collectives and the expression they assume in the public space must be considered against the backdrop of governance processes at the local level. Secondly, such manifestations can be read as intercultural props that buttress cultural policies at city level. Thirdly, in the case of Lisbon such policies and initiatives are shaped by a particular narrative organized around the celebration of an assumed historical ballast that finds its roots in a postcolonial Lusotropicalism. Such a narrative, conveyed through different devices such as discourses and images, constructs interculturality as an extension of a sui generis historical experience.
