(English) Portugal: Still a dualistic society, but at an existential crossroads

Partindo do artigo de Adérito Sedas Nunes intitulado “Portugal, uma sociedade dualista em evolução”, este texto apresenta uma perspetiva crítica sobre o modo como as configurações socioterritoriais mais determinantes progrediram na sociedade portuguesa desde a década de 1960. Apesar da persistência das dualidades, identifica-se, simultaneamente, um país em “puzzle” pautado por dinâmicas relevantes de diferenciação social, económica e cultural que carateriza a designada “terceira espacialidade”, também ela em evolução e reconfiguração. Na parte final, esboçam-se quatro desafios estruturais que apontam para caminhos possíveis a percorrer no futuro próximo. ____ Portugal: still a dualistic society, but at an existential cross-roads.Based on the Adérito Sedas Nunes article, “Portugal, an evolving dualistic society”, this text presents a critical perspective on how the most decisive socio-territorial configurations have progressed in the Portuguese society since the 1960s. Despite the persistence of dualities, it also identifies a complex “puzzle” characterized by significant dynamics of social, economic, and cultural differentiation that characterize the so-called “third spatiality”, which is also evolving and reconfiguring. The final section outlines four structural challenges that point to possible paths to follow in the future.
