Abstract
Developing projects and deploying (or removing!) infrastructures in territories – such as solar plants or dams – has significant socio-environmental impacts, even when it seems that these projects will help tackle climate change, such as with the green energy transition. In this talk, I will discuss, from both theoretical and practical perspectives, the challenges faced by environmental psychologists as practitioners that often act as mediators between the interests of governments, developers and businesses, and local communities and ecosystems. I will particularly focus on how a critical approach to public participation – including through our how ethical and methodological engagement – is key to promote socio-ecological sustainability.
