(Inglês) Scientific publication and social sciences: 100 issues of the journal Sociologia, Problemas e Práticas

This article analyses the importance of scientific journals in the constitution and development of scientific fields. It also analyses a set of issues that these journals currently face. It takes as a case study the journal Sociologia, Problemas e Práticas. This journal emerged in the process of institutionalization of the field of sociology in Portugal. It is now publishing its 100th issue, after 37 years of continued publication. This article analyses the context, profile and phases of this scientific journal that has sociology as its main focus, but is also open to interdisciplinary contributions from other social sciences. This article also addresses a number of problems that these academic journals are presently facing: open access scientific publication; peer review; the new scientific publishing platforms; and the tension between international publishing and contextual social impact.
