Our study compares the coping strategies of women and men in Portugal at the peak of the crisis in 2012. The data were collected through fifteen in-depth interviews (8 women, 7 men) to a sample of long-term unemployed people in Portugal.At a first glance, empirical results show similar patterns between men and women. The sampled unemployed people can be distributed among problem, symptom and emotion-focused strategies. However, those similarities in the type of coping strategies hide non-negligible variation in the specific behaviours and emotions among women and men.
