Abstract
The article discusses the translation of the agenda connecting labour market activation with social policies in different contexts. Based on a comparison between two programmes – Portugal’s minimum income scheme and Chile’s conditional cash transfer – it shows that the changes introduced as a result of this debate share some common characteristics, while demonstrating that there is also room for policy adaptation, reflecting the intersection of international models with local dynamics. The article advances the debates about the complex dynamics of welfare policies on a global scale and exploring the influence of the labour-market activation agenda on social policies.
