Abstract
It is now recognised by the WHO that the low quality of social ties has important consequences for physical health. The rising levels of loneliness has become a public health concern, but also a social justice problem, as it disproportionately affects the most vulnerable. In this communication we will present research that suggests the relevant role that urban green areas can play to fight loneliness. We will argue for the importance of urban interventions that create relational spaces: green, high quality public spaces to promote neighbourhood life and a sense of local community.
