Abstract
This study was conducted to reveal the relationship between technostress and ESG (Environment, Social, and Governance) in the business world. Besides definition of technostress and ESG concepts, the impact of technostress, which is one of the growing dangers of today’s world, on the sustainability of businesses and the measures that businesses can take against technostress are discussed. The main goal of businesses is to make a profit, and they try to make a profit by gaining sustainable competitive advantage. The ability of businesses to achieve sustainable competitive advantage depends on many factors. Business-related factors, situational factors, individual factors affect the sustainable competitive advantage of enterprises. Technostress has an intense relationship with these three key factors that affect sustainable competitive advantage. In today’s world, where technology is increasingly integrated into all life, we encounter the negative effects of technology as well as its good aspects. While businesses integrate technology into processes to increase their performance, employees necessarily interact with technology intensively. Outside of work, individuals use e-commerce or other applications to meet their daily needs while trying to meet their psychological needs through technological tools such as social media. As can be seen, individuals have interacted intensively with technology both in the business environment and in their living spaces outside of work, and this interaction is increasing. Today, we can see some of the dark side of technology, but if the interaction continues to increase in this way, it is almost impossible to predict the consequences of this interaction in the future. The danger of technostress, which is seen as a threat to sustainable competitive advantage for businesses, is more complex. Because businesses both need technology and have to meet this need in a delicate balance. In this study, the relationship between technostress and sustainability was tried to be revealed based on the literature review. The study also suggested several strategies that businesses can use to combat technostress. Stakeholders of businesses can be involved in decision-making processes with participatory processes. It is also recommended that businesses make their technological transformations within the framework of ESG criteria. In addition, the need for a governance process in which all stakeholders participate is emphasized.
