Abstract/Resumo
This paper deals with the most significant heterogeneities existing among those involved in social and political grassroots activism inside Israel since 2011. In particular, this study aims at focusing on the demanding issue that affects the combination of asymmetric relationships, internal discriminations and increasing inequalities among numerous subjectivities that have taken part in political protests across the MENA region in the last few years. In detail, I analyse the struggles of social and political activists coming from marginalised communities inside Israel, with specific attention to Mizrahi Jews and African refugees. They have commonly experienced different kinds of ethnic, national, race and class discriminations in Israeli society, but also in Israeli peace-oriented and leftist contexts due mainly to the prevalent Ashkenazi hegemony. In order to achieve this purpose, my own contribution intends to complement the existing scholarship and to interpret what is emerging from within Israeli society, which has recently become more fragmented than ever. Since I recognise the importance of understanding the variety of subjectivities currently participating in such transformation processes in the Middle East and North Africa area as a whole, I believe that the heterogeneity of subjectivities involved in the Israeli grassroots activism can be considered as a challenging field of study needing to be analysed and related to the most crucial subject matters in the region.
