CV Summary

I completed my Bachelor’s at the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Lisbon in 2016 with a final grade of 17, and my Master’s in Applied Cognitive Psychology at the University of Bologna with the highest grade of 110 cum laude.

My Master thesis in the field of Social Psychology was supervised by Prof. Monica Rubini. We collected data from immigrants and refugees to get a better understanding about the consequences of positive and negative intergroup contact experiences with Italians on their perception of discrimination. While working on this project I was a part of the organization committee for the EASP Meeting on Intergroup Communication, which influenced my interest in subjects related to intergroup interactions.

During this event I had the opportunity to meet Prof. Naomi Ellemers, head of the Organizational Behavior Research Group in Utrecht University, where I later did my professionalizing one-year internship. Here, I consolidated and learned new research skills and deepened my understanding of topics related to diversity, inclusion and morality from an applied organizational perspective. One of activities I undertook consisted of an overview of literature related to anti-bias trainings that supported the creation of a factsheet for Dutch companies with guidelines to promote their effectiveness.

During my internship, I started collaborating with a joint project prepared in 2018 by a group of members of the research group. The aim was to examine whether people feel threatened by presenting them with research findings related to gender bias in their group. My main task was to take on the management of the project by gathering and organizing the work previously done, organizing regular meetings with the group of researchers involved, and contributing to follow-up data analyses and writing of the manuscript.

Because I am interested in understanding the ways in which insights on social psychology can be applied in community contexts, I decided to complement my professional path with field experience by working in a ONLUS in Bologna dedicated to the support of Immigrant women. Working with these families made me gain a practical view on social psychology topics that until now I had explored mainly in a theoretical way.

On 2022 I started a project in a new research group, the William James Center for Research, which aim was to develop an intervention program for preschool teachers to address social withdrawal in early childhood.  In the scope of the project, I conducted over a hundred interviews with preschool aged children that supported the creation of a poster for the 2023 SRCD Biennial Meeting.

In early 2023 I started collaborating in a multi-disciplinary European project (kNOwHATE) which aims at offering an innovative, comprehensive, and culturally sensitive approach to analyze, detect, and counter, direct and indirect hate speech in Portuguese language through the examination of social media posts.

Additionally, I have always been aware of my social responsibility by participating in different volunteering activities, associated with psychology. I collaborated with “Fala-me de Neuro” dedicated to the dissemination of neuroscience in Portugal through social media.

Since May 2023 I started a collaboration with the Organizational Behavior Research Group in Utrecht University working in the Templeton Project with Prof. Naomi Ellemers and Prof. Félice van Nunspeet. The aim of the project is to validate the new two-dimensional model of social evaluation that has been developed by Abele, Ellemers, Fiske, Koch and Yzerbyt (2021). I currently work in several studies in different stages of elaboration by preparing data collection, analyzing data and writing papers.

In October 2023 I started a PhD in Psychology in CIS-IUL at Iscte with an FCT scholarship. My PhD project titled When what we want is not what you need: Understanding social change in asymmetric group relations” under the supervision of Professor Rita Guerra.
