Dr. Britta Baumgarten is a sociologist, researcher at the Centre for Research and Studies in Sociology (CIES-UIL) and invited professor at IPPS Lisbon. She works about Brazilian social movements in the defense of social rights and on Portuguese social movements against austerity.

She leads the project cooperation: "New modes of political participation" between CIES-UIL and the Federal University of Santa Catarina/ Brazil. 

She is consulting editor of "Social Movement Studies" and member of the editorial committee of "Sociologia, Problemas e Práticas".
