Filomena Gerardo holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of PARIS 5 – René Descartes – Sorbonne and ISCTE – IUL and a Master’s Degree in Culture and Social Behaviors from University of PARIS 5 – Sorbonne. She works at Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, the largest Portuguese (SCML) private entity that pursues objectives of social action, health care, education and culture. With around 5000 employees it includes the School of Health (ESSA), a Private Higher Education Institution, where she is a member of the technical scientific Council. She is currently a member of the Scientific Council of the Cathedral Of Inclusive and Advanced Societies in Age, University of Lorraine, France

She is also advisor of the Department of Social Action and Health, and Project Manager of National and International Projects, developing studies and participating in different international projects. Coordinates international projects by SCML and Dinamia'CET as Project H2020 SMART2B - Smart to existing Buildings (2021-2024), RIDPA International Project, International research on the Rights of Older Persons, in Pndemic context of Covid 19,funding by CNAV and IRESP, France (2021-2023) Project AAL Beaucoup Building Active User Experiences to Bring Culture to the People (co-PI) (2022-2025), previously , FP7 project SIforAGE – social innovation for healthy and active aging (2012-2016), and currently the coordinator at SCML of the AAL project CORDON GRIS –  Making sense of to promote effortless healthy eating habits and autonomy for older people (2016-2018).

Additionally she is a member of the Board of Directors of the International REIACTIS Network (Network of International Research on Age and Citizenship) since 2012, and also a  Senior researcher at the DinamiaCET ISCTE-IUL.
