Architectural survey and conservation and museumization project for the Vale de Milhaços Gunpowder Factory, Corroios
Researcher
This project aims to conduct an architectural survey and develop a Conservation and Museum Project for the Vale de Milhaços Gunpowder Factory in Corroios, an industrial complex of great historical, technical, and cultural value.
The proposed work is based on three fundamental objectives:
Documentation and historical analysis of the site, covering the immovable and movable heritage;
Diagnosis of conservation and heritage interpretation, identifying needs and priorities for intervention;
Preparation of the Museum Project, ensuring the enhancement, understanding, and preservation of the classified heritage.
The methodology adopted complies with national legislation and follows international recommendations for the safeguarding of cultural heritage, structured around the essential stages of Architectural Conservation: rigorous documentation, informed diagnosis, and a coherent intervention proposal.
The Gunpowder Factory is characterized by the complexity of its industrial heritage, integrating architectural, movable, natural, and intangible dimensions. The proposed approach is therefore holistic and sustainable, covering all aspects of heritage and reinforcing the need for close collaboration with the Seixal Municipal Ecomuseum, a key entity for the continuity, interpretation, and enhancement of the complex.
This project provides a solid basis for strategic decisions on preservation and museumization, contributing to the protection and public communication of this significant industrial heritage.
